A gimbal is a compact, handheld stabilizing device that mounts a camera on it. During filming, gimbals enable videographers to pan, tilt, and roll their cameras smoothly.

Gimbals can be programmed with apps to pre-programme movements for timelapse videos, as well as react to the motion of the videographer. In addition, they can have a follow focus attached to them to allow manual focusing while operating the gimbal.
